A bulbous perennial for a really sheltered position, well drained and in full sun. Between leathery succulent leaves rise strong stalks encircled with white, pink tipped bells with protruding stamens. The flowers turn to a purple-mauve colour as they age. A native of South Africa and endangered in its native habitat this plant needs protection from prolonged deep frosts. Plant deep in a well drained sunny sheltered site and mulch. Alternatively, grow in container and keep dry and frost free over winter.
